ATI’s Rowley titanium sponge plant launched

In what must be one of the lowest-key startups of a major U.S. titanium facility in recent memory, Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) said it has launched operations at its new premium-grade aerospace sponge plant in Rowley, Utah.
The Pittsburgh-based specialty metals producer confirmed that—true to its word—it began operations at Rowley before the end of 2009, although it didn't give a firm startup date.
An ATI spokesman also wouldn't reveal the rate at which the new plant is running, or if it has indeed started producing sponge. These details, he said, will be revealed later this month when ATI reports its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2009.....
