Greenbrier restarting railcar production

Greenbrier Cos. is bringing some mothballed North American capacity back online in an apparent sign of an improving railcar manufacturing outlook.

"Higher demand" is prompting the Lake Oswego, Ore.-based manufacturer of railcars, railcar components and marine barges—whose backlog was ravaged last year as General Electric Co. slashed its orders—to restart its Gunderson Concarril SA de CV railcar plant in Sahagun, Mexico.

Since the end of Greenbrier's fiscal second quarter on Feb. 28, the company has received a total of $40 million in new railcar orders for 300 covered hopper cars, and in Europe for 130 freightcar wagons.....
