JCI pushes ahead with U.S. lead recycling plant

Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) has received the final permitting for a new battery recycling center slated for Florence, S.C., as it looks to boost its lead recycling capacity.
The company has earmarked $100 million for the secondary lead plant, which will create 250 new jobs, although no date has yet been given on when construction will begin.
"One of the things we have tried to do and have done successfully, especially in North America, is by getting junks back—taking old batteries and recycling them—we've helped to insulate ourselves from some of the volatility in lead pricing," Mike Carr, JCI's vice president and general manager of Lead for Power Solutions Americas, said.
JCI also is building a similar facility in Garcia, Mexico, near its Monterrey manufacturing site that is due to start in October.....
