Bombardier cuts may pinch metals

Bombardier Aerospace is feeling the impact of the global economic slowdown, with the higher than normal level of deferrals and cancellations for its business aircraft prompting it to reduce its Learjet and Challenger production rates this year, the Montreal-based company said.

The cutback in the business jet build rate this year could mean fewer orders for metals suppliers like Alcoa Inc., Pittsburgh; Rio Tinto Alcan's Alcan Rolled Products plant in Ravenswood, W.Va.; RTI International Metals Inc., Pittsburgh; Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI), Pittsburgh; and A.M. Castle & Co., Franklin Park, Ill. All are on Bombardier's approved supplier....
