China silicon metal industry facing 30% fall in ’09 alloy demand

Silicon metal consumption from China's aluminum-silicon alloy industry could slide 30 percent to 80,000 to 100,000 tonnes this year, according to Shanghai Sigma Metals Inc., the country's largest aluminum alloy producer.
"This weak consumption could continue into next year unless there is a real recovery in the economy," Li Hongwei, the company's vice general manager, said at the 3rd China Silicon Industry Summit in Chongqing, organized by CBI China Co. Ltd.....
