Two Chinese steel projects ordered to halt

China's environment ministry has ordered a halt to two integrated steel projects in the eastern province of Shandong with a total hot-rolling capacity of 7 million tonnes per year.

Neither Rizhao Steel Co. Ltd.'s 5-million-tonne-per-year project nor Weifang Steel Group Co. Ltd.'s 2-million-tonne-per-year facility passed environmental inspections.

"Construction of the 2,150-millimeter hot-rolling mill has been suspended now, and we're not sure when construction will resume," a Rizhao Steel executive confirmed.....
