July auto sales accelerate 12.6%

Car and light truck sales for the top seven automotive brands in the United States accelerated to 850,584 vehicles last month, up 12.6 percent from 755,223 the previous month but still 12 percent behind 967,013 units in July last year, according to an AMM analysis.
Year-to-date sales of slightly more than 4.9 million vehicles remained a whopping 33.6 percent below nearly 7.4 million units sold during the first seven months of 2008.
Among the top three automakers, Ford Motor Co. was the only one to post a year-over-year gain in July—a 2.3-percent increase—while Hyundai Motor America, a unit of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co., saw an 11.9-percent increase in July compared with the same month last year.....
