Revised labor bill said ‘pounded out’

Sen. Arlen Specter (D., Pa.) has sat down "for hours" with a half dozen senators led by Tom Harkin (D., Iowa) and Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) "and we have pounded out" a compromise of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) "that will meet labor's objectives," he told the annual meeting of the AFL-CIO.
Saying it is "long past due to have labor law reform," Specter said those objectives include "prompt (union) certification and binding arbitration" to give unions and workers "the kind of support that you need and are entitled to."
He predicted that passage of the bill would be completed by the end of the year.
Specter, a Republican for 44 years until late April, opposed the legislation when it was introduced in March but supported it after switching to the Democratic Party.....
