To the Editor: The problems with our economy started in the late 1960s, when the Japanese began exporting more of their larger-ticket items to the United States while receiving government subsidies.
They also had been receiving post-war aid from the United States to help rebuild their country, so their equipment was "state of the art" at that time. This, of course, made them capable of producing quality goods at a competitive price. We, on the other hand, had older equipment not capable of producing the same quality and certainly not as economically.....
