Auto suppliers shut plants; 1 sets recall

Two suppliers to the automotive industry have announced plant closures, one in Ohio and the other in Michigan, but Cummins Inc. said Wednesday it will try to recall about 270 production employees, at least temporarily.
An expert on the automotive industry said Thursday he expects that the consolidation of automotive supplier capacity, both internally and through mergers and acquisitions, is likely to continue.
Cummins workers who had been laid off or transferred to other facilities during the past year will be recalled in order to meet a temporary increase in orders for the Dodge Ram turbo diesel pickup truck engines made at its Columbus, Ind., plant.....
