Blast furnace, anyone?
Sounds like a blast furnace in the U.S. Midwest might be on the auction block sometime in the near future, at least according to one analyst on the recent Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) third-quarter earnings conference call.
"Would you be interested in a Midwestern blast furnace that might come up for offer here perhaps in the next six months or so?" the analyst asked. (His happened to be the last question of the question and answer period.)
Rarely at a loss for words, SDI chairman and chief executive officer Keith Busse didn't hesitate to respond. "Oh, probably not. Because it would probably come with the Steelworkers, and we'd be reluctant to look at it."....
