Primary metal shipments up 2.1% in Sept.

Primary metal shipment values increased 2.1 percent in September, with the value of new orders inching up 0.3 percent from August, the U.S. Census Bureau said Wednesday in its latest report on durable goods manufacturers' shipments, inventories and orders.

The value of primary metal shipments topped $13.67 billion last month on a seasonally adjusted basis vs. a downwardly revised $13.39 billion in August. September 2008 shipments totaled $22.85 billion (not seasonally adjusted). Through the first nine months of the year, shipment values fell 40.8 percent year on year to $121.35 billion.....
