Scrap ordinances expand in Maryland, Tennessee

A local council in Maryland has enacted a scrap metal ordinance, while a Tennessee city is planning to expand its existing ordinance.
The Memphis (Tenn.) City Council is considering amending its scrap metal ordinance to widen the array of items that will be subject to a 10-day tag-and-hold policy.
The city enacted the ordinance in 2007, requiring scrapyards to tag and hold certain items for a 10-day period to enable law enforcement agencies enough time to identify and stolen items. Local scrapyards and the Tennessee Scrap Recyclers Association unsuccessfully tried to block the law through appeal to a federal court (AMM, May 12).....
