Horsehead slips $3.6M into red in 3d qtr.

Zinc recycler Horsehead Holding Corp. posted a $3.6-million net loss in the third quarter as sales sagged 44.8 percent to $60.3 million.

In the year-ago quarter, the company had recorded net income of $9.4 million on sales of $109.2 million.

Quarterly zinc shipments also sagged, tumbling 22.8 percent to 30,568 tons from 39,615 tons in the three months ended Sept. 30, 2008, with average zinc selling prices down 12.2 percent to 79 cents per pound from 90 cents in the same comparison.....
