North American primary aluminum production rises 1.2% in October

North American primary aluminum output ticked higher in October, a trend that analysts said could be a response to higher aluminum prices over the course of the month.
In October, primary aluminum production in the United States and Canada was at an annualized rate of 4,625,810 tonnes, up 1.2 percent from September's 4,569,569 tonnes. Although up month on month, that rate still trailed by 18.9 percent the level seen in October last year, according to combined figures from the aluminum associations of the two countries.
Primary production in just the United States was at an annualized rate of 1,607,884 tonnes last month, up 2.2 percent from September but down 37.2 percent from October last year, according to statistics from the Aluminum Association, Arlington, Va. Actual U.S. production in October totaled 136,560 tonnes, up 5.6 percent month on month.....
