Fla. lead smelter EnviroFocus to upgrade, expand

EnviroFocus Technologies LLC plans to quadruple the capacity of its 1960s-vintage lead smelter in Tampa, Fla., to 260 million pounds per year.
EnviroFocus expects to spend $117 million and boost the number of employees to 215, according to the company, a subsidiary of Gopher Resource Corp., Eagan, Minn.
Companies with aged lead recycling smelters face regulatory pressures to either do major upgrades or exit the business. A federal regulation taking effect in 2017 sets an airborne lead maximum of 0.15 micrograms per cubic meter, a 90-percent reduction from the current limit.....
