Emal eyes big US mart role in 5 years

Abu Dhabi's Emirates Aluminium (Emal) expects to become a key supplier to the U.S. market within the next five years, an executive at the world's largest single-site smelter told AMM.

The company, which will initially focus its supply strategy on Europe and Asia when it rolls out its first metal in early 2010, hopes to win business in the United States by the time its second phase of construction is completed in 2014, Duncan Hedditch, Emal's chief executive officer, said.

"We see ourselves as a global supplier," Hedditch said in a telephone interview from the United Arab Emirates. "We'll have significant local presence, clearly, but at the same time we have customers lined up in Europe and Asia, and by Phase Two we expect to have a presence in every market. There's a lot of interest globally in this project."....
