Mo. scrap dealer says tax break subsidizes rival

A Missouri scrap dealer claims that so-called local government subsidies to a competitor could drive him out of business.
"It takes several counties to support our business. We have been here over 60 years and are being threatened by local government subsidies," said David Fusselman, president of Fusselman Salvage Co.
The Moberly-based scrap dealer is upset that Festus-headquartered Shapiro Brothers Inc. has received assistance in a relocation and expansion project from the Moberly Area Economic Development Corp. (MAEDC).
The Shapiro relocation to 100 Sparks Ave. will result in 10 new jobs over a three-year period, as well as upgrades to the infrastructure, MAEDC president Corey Mehaffy said in a statement. Infrastructure improvements include the development of a rail spur on the property.....
