Latrobe Specialty Steel Co.'s president and chief executive officer, Hans Sack, has resigned.

The Latrobe, Pa.-based specialty steelmaker confirmed that Sack will officially step down Dec. 31.

The company has retained Los Angeles-based executive search firm Korn/Ferry International to lead the process of pursuing a new chief executive. It declined to discuss replacement candidates or its plans to fill the vacancy. Sack didn't return a phone call seeking comment.

"Hans has made numerous lasting contributions to Latrobe Specialty Steel Co., including leading projects such as our new VIM (vacuum-induction melting facility), which have strongly positioned the company for the future," Steven E. Karol, co-executive chairman, said in a letter to employees. "We are grateful to him for his service and we wish him well in his future endeavors."....
