Canada's HudBay Minerals seeking M&A, internal growth

HudBay Minerals Inc.'s leadership team might still be in flux, but that's not going to stop the Canadian miner from moving forward with merger and acquisition activity if the opportunity arises.

In November, the Toronto-based company announced the year-end retirement of Peter Jones, chief executive officer, as well as the immediate resignation of Michael D. Winship, president and chief operating officer.

But according to David Bryson, senior vice president and chief financial officer, upheaval at the executive level isn't an excuse to miss out on deals if the pickings are ripe. "We are continuing to look at potential acquisition opportunities in the meantime. The mandate we have from the board is not to miss a step while the board searches for a new CEO for HudBay," Bryson told investors at the Desjardins Basic Materials Conference in Montreal this week, noting that the search for Jones' replacement is expected to last between three and five months.....
