AK Steel cites higher demand, costs for $30/T sheet hike

AK Steel Corp. intends to increase spot market prices on carbon sheet products by $30 per ton effective with new orders scheduled for shipment Jan. 1.
The hike is in addition to a previously announced increase of $20 per ton on hot-rolled products and $30 per ton on cold-rolled and coated sheet, also set to go into effect Jan. 1.
West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel said the price increase is being sought in response to increased demand for carbon steel products as well as its need to recover higher costs for steelmaking inputs. The hike follows similar moves announced during the past week by other North American steel producers and essentially puts AK Steel's prices in line with those of others in the industry.....
