Buyers mixed on ArcelorMittal USA SBQ restart

While buyer reaction was mixed to plans by ArcelorMittal USA to restart the special bar quality (SBQ) line at its Indiana Harbor Long Carbon facility, on idling since July, steelworkers are raring to go.
Tom Hargrove, president of United Steelworkers union Local 1010, said Thursday he expects the melt shop, caster and 12-inch rolling mill will be running two shifts by the end of March with about 250 hourly workers. The union and company had been in talks for weeks about the possibility of restarting the SBQ operations.
"The exact number of employees that will be brought back is undetermined at this time," a spokesman for the Chicago-based company said Wednesday, but "we are working closely with the (union) to ensure a safe and successful restart."
The local will first solicit internally for the openings "because so many of the employees in the bar division moved to the flat-rolled division (at Indiana Harbor). After that we'll offer jobs to Local 1011. Then we will offer any remaining jobs to the probationary people who were terminated at the start of the slowdown."....
