US silicon prices slip as firms lock down 2010 business

The past two weeks have been busy for silicon metal producers, who have been intent on locking down 2010 business even if that means accepting a slightly lower price.

Spot U.S. silicon metal prices are in a range of $1.16 to $1.20 per pound, down from $1.23 to $1.25 last month.

"Pricing weakened a little as people looked to fill up for next year," a U.S.-based source at a silicon and ferrosilicon producer told AMM. "We think this is a temporary thing and prices will move up from this point. Everyone has gotten the business they wanted and everything is booked."....
