US metal imports, exports mixed, federal data shows

A slew of government data shows mixed results for U.S. metal imports and exports.

The November index for iron and steel import prices rose 1.5 percent to 198.1 from 195.1 the previous month but was down 22.3 percent from a year earlier, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The November index for iron and steel export prices rose 0.4 percent to 175.6 from 174.9 in October but was down 4.8 percent from November 2008.

The November index for copper import prices rose 2.4 percent to 302.3 from 295.1 the previous month and was up 40.3 percent from a year earlier. The November index for copper export pricing grew 4.4 percent to 203.8 from 195.2 in October and was up 13.2 percent from a year earlier.....
