Weaker aluminum grades snap back in Spirit scrap auction

Spirit AeroSystems Inc.'s quarterly auction of aerospace aluminum scrap saw the less attractive grades yield the biggest price jumps, ending the wider differentials that had prevailed during the recession's worst months.
Custom Alloy Scrap Sales Inc., Oakland, Calif., took forthcoming material at the premium end of the auction roster, paying 56.21 cents per pound for mixed aluminum briquetted borings that will become available from the Wichita, Kan., plant of the aircraft components maker in the first quarter of 2010. That value is up 6 percent from a September....
