U.S. Steel planning to boost Keetac output

U.S. Steel Corp. is planning to boost production and at its Keewatin (Keetac) iron ore operation in Minnesota, citing increased global steel demand.
The estimated $300-million project would boost annual taconite pellet production to 9.6 million tons from 6 million tons by expanding contiguous sections of the existing open-pit mine and restarting an idled production line.
The grate kiln pellet line, which will be restarted, began operation in 1969 and has been idle since 1980.
Iron ore pellets from the proposed project, estimated to begin in 2012 or 2013, would then be transported to the producer's steel production facilities.....
