Canada seeks to have USS legal challenge dismissed

The Canadian government is seeking dismissal of U.S. Steel Corp.'s challenge of a law governing foreign investment in Canada, according to local reports and court documents.
The government is suing the Pittsburgh-based steelmaker for allegedly violating jobs and production level agreements reached when the company took over the operations of the former Stelco Inc. in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2007.
U.S. Steel shut down much of its Canadian operations—now known as U.S. Steel Canada—earlier this year, citing weak steel demand emanating from the global financial crisis. Some of its U.S. operations also were shut down.....
