Standards agency helping fund metals technology research

The U.S. government will provide up to $71 million in funding for 20 new cost-sharing projects that will support innovative, high-risk research in new technologies that address critical national needs.
The funds for the new projects will be provided through the Technology Innovation Program (TIP) of the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The projects include developing a new casting technology, developing a high-speed sorting system for recycling aerospace metals and developing robotic systems to inspect bridge decks.
"These projects will develop new technology and material that will play a critical role in modernizing infrastructure and developing the manufacturing sector across the country," Dennis Hightower, deputy secretary of the U.S. Commerce Department, said in a statement.....
