OSHA removes Yaffe citation in settlement on blast death

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has withdrawn a citation that said Yaffe Cos. should routinely have carried out an "abatement method" to detect live explosives in military scrap, such as the shell that fatally injured temporary worker Stephen Fontenot last year.
The settlement deal led to a reduced penalty of $6,300 rather than $12,600 for the Nov. 3 explosion at an Arkoma, Okla., scrapyard owned by Muskogee, Okla.-based Yaffe.
Though the original OSHA citation became public knowledge, Yaffe has remained silent about the partial vindication.....
