Alcoa continues talks over Italian smelters

The Italian government has offered to continue to subsidize energy prices at Alcoa Inc.'s Italian smelters at Portovesme and Fusina for the next six months in a bid to stave off closure and in the hope that a long-term solution would be found by then, according to an official at metalworkers union Federazione Impiegati Operai Metallurgici (FIOM).
"The last proposal that the government made was the government will somehow provide energy with low costs for the first six months of next year," the official said. "This is to give time for the company, the government, the unions and local institutions. The company was not so happy with that and so we are waiting." ....
