Pipe manufacturer admits environmental charges, fined $4M

A cast iron pipe manufacturer has pleaded guilty in federal court to decade-old environmental violations.
McWane Inc., Birmingham, Ala., was fined $4 million and placed on probation for five years after pleading guilty in U.S. District Court for northern Alabama to nine felony counts of Clean Water Act violations, the U.S. Justice Department said.
James Delk, former general manager and vice president of the Birmingham plant, who pleaded guilty to eight counts of negligently violating the Clean Water Act, was fined $8,000 and placed on probation for three years; and former plant manager Michael Devine, who pleaded guilty to five counts of negligently violating the Clean Water Act, was fined $2,000 and placed on probation for two years.....
