City proposing 5-year tax break for Gerdau Ameristeel

A request by Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. has led a city councilman in Jacksonville, Fla., to introduce a bill to grant the company a public service tax exemption for five years.
According to the proposed ordinance, introduced by Ray Holt, one of 19 city council members, the city has the authority to waive its public service tax on businesses' electric utility bills for up to five years. The relief would be terminated in the event the company relocates outside the area.....
