Boeing takes over S. Carolina plant key to 787 production

Boeing Co. has consolidated its control of the South Carolina complex crucial to successful production of its new 787 Dreamliner.
The Chicago-based aerospace company has purchased the other half of Global Aeronautica LLC, a facility in North Charleston that manufactures fuselage subassemblies for the 787, becoming sole owner of the plant. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Boeing bought the interest from the Alenia North America Inc. subsidiary of Alenia Aeronautical of Italy, which is a unit of Finmeccanica SpA.
Global Aeronautica, part of which is now called Boeing Charleston, was originally a joint venture of Alenia North America and Vought Aircraft Industries Inc., whose interest Boeing acquired in 2008. It joins mid-fuselage sections shipped from various global locations, primarily Italy and Japan.....
