Rio Tinto deal with Amcor progressing, Bemis hits a speed bump

Amcor Ltd.'s purchase of parts of Rio Tinto's Alcan Packaging business has been approved by U.S. antitrust regulators, the Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday.

The announcement followed a mid-December ruling by the European Commission also approving the $2.025-billion sale to the Australian company.

The assets involved in the deal, which include Alcan Packaging Global Pharmaceuticals Inc., Alcan Packaging Food Europe, Alcan Packaging Food Asia and Alcan Packaging Global Tobacco, generate annual sales of about $4.1 billion, according to Rio Tinto. ....
