Trade groups balk at move to toughen ‘Buy American’ rules

House Democrats are pushing for tougher "Buy American" provisions as part of the $75 billion in stimulus funding contained in a new jobs bill backed by President Obama, although some trade groups are against the move.

The action, impacting a smaller amount of federal spending than the original $787-billion stimulus package, threatens to set off a new trade row with Canada, already seething from being locked out of many stimulus projects the first time around.....
