Barge operators fight states calling for Great Lakes lock closure

Barge and towboat operators are continuing to rally against legal maneuvers by states to close locks in and around the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in order to prevent the Asian carp from breaching barriers and entering the Great Lakes, where they are deemed a threat to other fish.
Minnesota is the latest state to file a brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to order emergency injunctive relief to close Illinois locks linked to the Great Lakes.
Michigan has asked the Supreme Court to immediately order federal, state and local officials responsible for Chicago-area locks and waterways to take measures to prevent Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes. ....
