Power woes hit Shandong steel output

Steel mills in eastern China's Shandong province have been forced to cut output due to an electricity shortage.

Among the mills affected are Jinan Iron & Steel Group Corp., Laiwu Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. and Rizhao Iron & Steel Group Co.

The power shortage is due to a lack of thermal coal. A safety inspection of coal mines at the end of last year led to shutdowns that aggravated the coal shortage, a Jinan Steel executive said. Government authorities are also restricting the use of electricity.....
