U.S. Steel starts $1.2B Clairton rehab

U.S. Steel Corp.'s $1.2-billion rehabilitation of its Clairton (Pa.) Works officially kicked off this week with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The Pittsburgh-based steelmaker is building two state-of-the-art coke batteries to replace two older battery groups and will be rehabilitating the facility's remaining coke batteries. The project represents the largest capital expenditure in U.S. Steel's history.
It's an expenditure that is necessary, according to industry experts, and also a good business call.
"It's important to expand coke production, given the fact that steel is going to grow as the world grows," Bruce Steiner, president of the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute, said on the sidelines at Intertech Pira's Met Coke 12th Annual World Summit in Chicago.....
