Cliffs cuts production at two mines, turns off 3 furnaces

Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. announced Tuesday immediate production cuts at two iron ore mines in Minnesota and turned off three small pellet furnaces, including two at Northshore Mining Co. and one at United Taconite, due to low demand.
"While we regret having to take this action, production and demand must be balanced to meet customer needs and to ensure the continued health of the business," Donald J. Gallagher, president of Cliffs' North American business unit, said in a statement.....
