High-speed ship plan a boon for metals

In what could be a boost for steel and aluminum, the U.S. Navy will move ahead with plans to build five more Littoral combat ships next year and in 2010, sources said.
The Navy disclosed early this week that is has asked Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, Md., and General Dynamics Corp., Falls Church, Va., to submit bids to build five new ships within the next 18 months or so. Plans call for the winning bidder to produce three of the high-speed ships and the loser two.....
