Aluminum scrap loses brief flicker as prices edge lower

Last week's hint of effervescence in the aluminum scrap market has largely vanished as prices showed some weakening.

The export market, with the exception of Japan, remains a bit more active than it was in October, though quantities remain modest. "It's there on a spotty basis," one market participant said.

Sheet and cast prices paid by U.S. smelters fell slightly during the past week, now centering in a range of 35 to 36 cents a pound, down by a penny.....
