Aleris’ Va. rolling mill going to full idle

Nov 18, 2008 | 11:00 AM |

Aleris Inc. is indefinitely idling all remaining production at its Richmond, Va., rolling mill due to the downturn in the North American building and construction industry.

This means all output at the facility will cease "until conditions improve," the Beachwood, Ohio-based aluminum sheet producer and recycler said late Monday.

Aleris earlier this year idled production for all third parties at the rolling mill and said it would continue producing for internal requirements only (AMM, Feb. 25).

The company declined to provide information on production levels prior to the full closure of the facility. The Richmond facility, once part of Alsco Metal Co., produced semi-fabricated aluminum coil. It was purchased by Aleris in 2005.....
