Economic stimulus plan should help ports Mackie

The need for maintenance dredging in America's 269 commercial ports has been discussed by Congress and the Bush administration as part of a $150-billion stimulus plan for the U.S. economy, according to an executive of Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corp.

"It is our understanding that this stimulus package will include more than $1 billion to be spent over a two-year period as requested by the Army Corps of Engineers for maintenance dredging and coastal restoration," Doug Mackie, president and chief executive officer of the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company, said during an earnings....
