Aluminum market outlook deteriorates on auto gloom

The mood in the global secondary aluminum market is deteriorating as the industry assesses the damage of plunging orders from the automotive sector.

Ingot producers have been forced to adjust to lower order volumes and the uncertainty of hand-to-mouth buying by their customers.

In the hallways outside Metal Bulletin's 16th International Recycled Aluminium Conference in Vienna, the atmosphere was much more downbeat than at the podium. In hushed tones, delegates expressed their fears for the future as diecasters face a 20- to 40-percent drop in orders from the auto industry and buying on a strictly need-only basis.....
