Alpart’s unionized workers refuse to defer salary hike

Alumina Partners of Jamaica Ltd.'s (Alpart's) unionized employees have rejected a management proposal to indefinitely postpone a 12-percent raise that is slated to go into effect in January, the company said in a statement.
Alpart management last week asked the National Workers Union's approximately 1,000 workers to delay the contractually agreed upon pay increase as a means to deal with the global financial crisis and the precipitous fall in alumina prices.....
