OmniSource starts nonferrous shredder

OmniSource Corp. has started running a new shredder in Fort Wayne, Ind., but it isn't ripping apart old vehicles and appliances. Instead, it's tearing up nonferrous metals gleaned from automotive shredder residue, or fluff.
The Fort Wayne-based scrap processor, a subsidiary of Steel Dynamics Inc., this week started up a smaller shredder at its OmniSource Media division yard on Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne, across town from its headquarters and main ferrous yard. The 62-90 shredder was manufactured by American Pulverizer Co., St. Louis, and is powered by a 2,000-horsepower direct-current motor.....
