High-value metals loss seen with conventional sorting

Electronic-scrap processors might be losing a sizable portion of the precious metals in their feedstock by not paying more attention to sorting technologies, according to researchers from Berlin's University of Technology.

The researchers looked at the material flowing into and out of an electronic scrap recycling facility and discovered that conventional sorting technologies and shredding lead to extensive losses of high-value metals like gold and silver, according to a report by Recycling International, a Netherlands-based recycling magazine.....
