Lobby targets ArcelorMittal tax breaks

A lobby group called Global Action on ArcelorMittal has sent letters to the presidents of Ukraine and Kazakhstan questioning memoranda of understanding it alleges have been signed with the Luxembourg-based steelmaker.
The lobby group, which is made up of a number of environmental and community organizations, said both governments have signed memorandums with ArcelorMittal, reportedly to prevent thousands of job losses. In turn, the governments are said to be granting tax breaks, state subsidies, guaranteed steel purchases and exemptions from environmental obligations to the company.....
