Titanium mart braces for price fall on Boeing woes

Boeing Co.'s anticipated confirmation that it once again has stretched out deliveries for the 787 Dreamliner has some titanium buyers bracing for possible further price erosion in the New Year.
Boeing this week confirmed widespread industry speculation that, for at least the fourth time, it is postponing the first delivery of the 787 from the third quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010—a delay of about two years from its original schedule.
The plane's first flight, previously slated for the fourth quarter of this year, has been pushed back to the second quarter of 2009.
Scott E. Carson, president and chief executive officer of the company's Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. subsidiary in Everett, Wash., blamed the delay on a two-month strike by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers that ended last month, as well as a requirement to replace certain fasteners in early production aircraft.....
