Great Lakes coal shipments surge 20.8% in November

Coal shipments on the Great Lakes topped 4.07 million tons in November and rose 20.8 percent compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Lakes' Carriers Association.
Steam coal accounts for approximately 90 percent of coal shipments, but an association spokesman said some metallurgical coal is transported on Lake Erie. Total coal shipments on Lake Erie declined 7.8 percent year-on-year in November to 1.16 million tons.....
